The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) is the self-regulatory body for the print journalism industry, created and funded by newspapers and magazines themselves. It does however retain some independence from the industry, which is necessary for obvious reasons, but cannot impose penalties for breaches.

1

When you buy a copy of any magazine at a newsstand, your financial contribution to the magazine itself is generally very, very small; the lion's share of the cover price actually goes to the distributor. Generally speaking, the primary source of funding for magazine publishing is not sales, but advertising.13 May 2013

2 I think theres been a dramatic fall in print magazines because of the internet and online social media

3The U.S. consumer magazine industry shrunk by more than 20% in the past five years, due largely to print advertising declines, per PwC data. But the rate of decline is expected to slow slightly in the next five years, thanks to new efforts from online media companies to acquire and digitize traditional print brands.

Unlike many earlier styles of popular music, rock lyrics have dealt with a wide range of themes, including romantic love, sex, rebellion against "The Establishment", social concerns, and life styles.

rap

sex money drugs

What genres are popular with which age groups? Adults over age 65 tend to listen to rock and country music more, whereas hip-hop and rap are popular with older teens and young adults.
Typically, hip hop music consists of rhythmic lyrics making use of techniques like assonance, alliteration, and rhyme. The rapper is accompanied by an instrumental track, usually referred to as a " beat," performed by a DJ, created by a producer, or one or more instrumentalists.

A rapper is a type of entertainer who mixes music and rhymes to tell a story. Typically focused on life in the ghetto and the tough times of growing up in the bad part of town, the rapper often uses explicit lyrics to drive the meaning home

the repprensetations of british rappers are usually from an urban area or city center and if your not british or from that sort of area then usually they put on a London accent the clothes they wearer usually dark grey black etc they also usually cover there faces

DO NOW

pies
  • she's gothic
  • includes 15 cds
  • 150 reviews

two ways the magazine attract their audiences is by using a free cd with 15 tracks so people will buy it to listen to music for free and they also use a famous music star on the cover to attract fans of that star so they'll be more willing to buy it and read about there favourite celebs

music videos
teenage dirtbag

  narrative linear played by actors
american school- school hallways
school bully jock
lighting
popular
casual clothes

skater boi

sky scrapers abandoned buildings predominantly white
 over saturated

one way the music videos uses media language is the mise en scene they use props like cars they wear causal clothes or gothic like clothes they use stereotypes in the videos like in teenage dirtbag they use a nerd who has a crush on the popular girl but she's with the school bully whose a jock and in skater boi they use the stereotype of a punk boy getting rejected by a snobby girl then he goes out with a emo girl and they get famous

4 conglomerate

bbc provide a wider range of content because it attracts listeners

the main aims for commercial radio are to make money and provide content for the people

one reqirment that the bbc radio needs is to meet the remit otherwise they wont be allowed to play or do anything

one example of them meeting the remit is by surrporting new artists

another way bbc live lounge have provided another ay of content is doing live performances and bringing guest stars on to perform for the public

l/o to explore the exam style questions and practice exam technique for q5 focusing on media language and representations

do now

shot types are different camera shots at different angles and ranges

a masthead is the name of the magazine

context
what is going on in the world at the time gender sexuality multicultriaims celebrity consumerism

magazine 1
i think the layout is cluttered
i think this connotes that its eye catching and so full filled it'll make you wanna read the whole things

i think the colour pallate is saturated
i think the colour choice suggests its a popular and eye catching magazine

magazine 2

i think the layout  is orded cause its very formal  and has a

 font

this layout connotes that its quite a formal magazine

i think the colour pallate is saturated

i think the colour pallate connotes that its a formal magazine and quite posh

magazine 3

the magazine has a sans seriff font on the cover suggesting the bold nature of the magazine
the use of a muted colour pallate in the main cover image suggests theres realism of the world through music as well they use the seriff font to show tradition

the magazine uses the star veichle david bowie this suggests he may be realising a album or having a collaboration with another singer songwriter or it could also be for an album he may be realising. it could also be advertisement for mojo magazines having david on the front cover.

the star veichle is different this time with a completely different background and image this seems very formal with the star veichle stood straight with his cars buggy and scooter these aren't posh or expensive looking they look very typical the star vehicle isn't very known where as the david bowie one david is famous and known

the media language is used differently in these magazines as one is very vibrant and colour and te other being very bright but plain  one of them has a mid shot with a young revealing pop star whilst the other has 4 males in suits non sexualised and dressed in funky colours                                                              in conclusion magazines have different genre codes and styles i think the one with the 4 guys is very multicultural and pycdelic where as the shakeria one is made her look royal vein andlook good i think she is sexualised in this by not having any clothes on in 2023 this is quite bad

Tuesday 28th november 2023

the media language is used differently in the two magazine covers because the generic conventions of the magazines and the audience appeal the mastheads on two magazine are clearly different type
the use of the lower case case letters yellow sans serif type shows a sense of informality and rebelloin
as it refuses to use a capital letter for the name of the magazine the use of yellow gives a happy and positive mood to the cover the use of the sans serif font gives it a morden clean informal feel to the cover the mast therefore appeals to the audience by giving and overall youthful and up to date version of music
